Farmers markets are an exciting and essential ingredient in many peoples shopping experience. Very close to us here at Ballymaloe Cookery School we have some of the best farmers markets in the Country.  Midleton Farmers market was one of the very first in the new wave of farmers markets that swept the country in the late 1990’s and Mahon Point Farmers Market is a wonderful modern farmers market showing the very best of Irish produce, small scale artisan food production and exciting hot market food.  

On the first afternoon you will see how versatile your cooking can be when buying from a farmers market, with an afternoon cookery demonstration. The following morning we will travel to Mahon Point Farmers market to spend time walking through the more than 50 stalls sampling wares and choosing ingredients to cook with back at the cookery school.  You will get a chance to enjoy lunch in one of the many stalls doing delicious hot food. All tastes are catered for with stall providing everything from traditional Palestinian pizza to East Corks finest steak sandwiches with fresh bernaise sauce. Additionally the group will travel to the Old English Market in Cork city to see how traditional and modern mix in this very historic cork market.

Arriving back to the school you will spend the afternoon in the kitchen using some of the great ingredients we have picked up at the market to create a spectacular early evening supper for us all to enjoy.

Course Elements

  • A demonstration session, with overhead mirrors and two monitors showing close-up handiwork. Teachers share a wealth of knowledge through their expert tips and techniques. Students can ask questions and have the opportunity to taste the dishes prepared at the end of the sessions.

  • A practical session where you will have help from our experienced tutors, followed by a sit down supper.

  • A tour into Cork to visit Mahon Point Farmers Market and the Old English Market.

  • A guided tour of our organic farm, gardens, dairy and glasshouses so you can see where much of our produce comes from.

  • Breakfast each morning.

  • Our Shop will be open for further inspiration: cookery books, equipment and select ingredients
  • Time to buy lots of wonderful things in the markets to bring home with you for the Easter weekend.
