Nina Hemmen Kockwerkstatt

Students who attend our 12 Week course come from all walks of life and for lots of different reasons. Nina Hemmen came with the specific goal of opening her own cookery school when she returned to Berlin as a Ballymaloe trained cook. Nina's cookery school Nina Hemmen Kockwerkstatt is now up and running successfully, and she has great plans for the future. Nina currently takes small groups of students - no more than 12 people at a time - and takes them through preparing a four course meal covering as many essential culinary techniques as possible. She also takes groups for birthdays, team-building or celebrations such as Christmas.

She draws her inspiration from chefs such as Ottolenghi, Marcella Hazan, Tim Raue and, of course she says, Darina Allen. She told us that upon completing the 12 week certificate course, she felt completely equipped to get her own business off the ground. Imbued with the Ballymaloe philosophy of cooking with sustainably produced, organic food, she endeavours to source only the best produce where she can in Berlin. Her new business partner who has just come on board has just now also completed the 12 Week Certificate course. They are looking forward to growing the business together.
