Fair Trade Nicaraguan Chocolate with Heydi Mairena
Last night we had an informative talk from Heydi Mairena, all the way from Nicaragua – where her family make chocolate by hand and minimal machinery.

Emma Daly from Fairtrade Ireland started by telling us about the founding and many benefits of Fairtrade, before Heydi talked us through the chocolate-making process – from picking the cocoa beans, roasting, grinding to the final product.

Heydi had also brought a few different chocolates with her to taste: one with peanuts, coffee and a dark chocolate.

This was a Slow Food event – proceeds going to the East Cork Slow Food Educational Project.
